MTV3 News reported today, that a great deal of hotel rooms in Helsinki have already been reserved for the week of 10-12 May next year, that are the dates announced by EBU. Hotel owners are now reported to demand that the event be moved forward to the following week, where the Thursday is a Bank Holiday in Finland. Then a lot of hotel capacity would be free from business travel. Hotels have received enquiries of 30-60 rooms, while the biggest single request has already been for 500 rooms. The report suggests that hotels in Helsinki now would be choosing their customers very carefully and would not want to upset regular their customers. Obviously several travel agents have already predicted that Helsinki will be chosen as the host and block-booked rooms. At the same time, if hotel owners in Helsinki are already worried with their capacity of 15000 beds, how could a smaller city in Finland cope with the demand? The decision of the host city is expected by Friday next week. Photo: Hotelli Torni - Wikimedia Commons |
